Twin Turbo Audi R8 Performance Coilover Upgrade

The Audi R8, flagship sports car of the Audi lineup leads the brand in both technology and performance. Since 2006 Audi has sold over 7,000 R8’s in the US market alone. Both a proven road car and race car the Audi R8 is perfect except for one thing, EDC Shock failures. These shock failures have plagued the R8’s for years and have been surprising owners with sky high repair bills.

Only available from Audi, the OEM replacement EDC shocks are $7,400 not including labor. Audi has also not updated the parts to fix the problems so replacing the suspension with OEM parts only resets the clock on the failure instead of actually addressing the problem. The best permanent solution to the failures is to install a set of performance aftermarket coilovers which are both less expensive and add height adjustment. There are many options available for every budget, from $2,000 to $6,000, from brands such as BC Racing, KW, H&R, & Bilstein. The failure of the EDC shocks is not limited to the R8, the RS4’s also suffer from the same failures and aftermarket coilover options are also available for that platform at a fraction of the cost of OEM suspension.

If you have an R8 with OEM EDC shock failure, contact us now to equip your R8 with performance aftermarket coilovers solving the OEM shock failure forever!

Below in this article we have documented the replacement of the stock suspension on a Heffner Twin Turbo V8 R8 Coupe with BC Racing Coilovers. The Heffner Twin Turbo kit cranks it up to 625HP on pump gas, turning the R8 V8 from a sports car into a super car. To install the BC Racing coilovers on the R8 an EDC delete is also needed from KW Suspension to trick the computer into thinking the EDC is still active on the car and not cause any warning lights to appear.

Pictured are the BC Racing coilovers prior to installation. These coilovers will solve the R8 OEM shock failure permanently.
